Linktarythe notary for links

Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-10-06. These terms govern your use of Linktary (linktary.com). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

1. What Linktary is

Linktary ("the notary for links") is a signed-link shortener. When you create a link, we fetch the destination, follow its redirect chain, score host / chain / content signals, and publish a verdict (SAFE, CAUTION, BLOCKED) on a public trust report with the evidence — plus an Ed25519-signed certificate anyone can verify independently. The free tier includes verification, trust reports, and the dashboard (up to 60 links/hour).

2. Verdicts are assessments, not guarantees

A verdict describes the destination as it was at check time — never as it is now. SAFE means no issues were found during verification; it is not a guarantee the destination is benign. Destinations change, certificates expire, and no automated check catches everything. You remain responsible for what you click and what you send.

3. If we get a verdict wrong

This is our written remedy, and it applies whether you are the link owner, a visitor, or a customer:

  1. Tell us. File at /report-abuse (you'll get a reference ID) or email hello@linktary.com. Abuse reports are reviewed within 24 hours.
  2. We re-verify immediately. The destination is checked fresh — not from cache — and the trust report is updated with the new verdict and evidence.
  3. We contain it. A confirmed-malicious destination is blocked for every link pointing at it; the offending link is revoked (it stops resolving, its certificate is revoked with it).
  4. We tell you what we found. The reporter is notified of the outcome against their reference ID.

Commercial remedy. The service is free: you paid no fees, so there is no purchase to refund. What we owe you for a wrong verdict is the incident path above — prompt re-verification, containment, and an honest account of what happened — not monetary damages (see §6). If you need a contractual remedy with teeth (SLA credits, indemnities), that's what the enterprise tier's DPA and SLA are for when they ship — today they are honestly labeled planned, not sold.

4. Acceptable use

You must not use Linktary to shorten destinations that are phishing, malware, fraud, or otherwise illegal; to evade blocks; or to probe the verification engine as an oracle. We may revoke links and suspend accounts for abuse, without notice, when the evidence supports it. Mass creation, scraping the checker, or hammering the API past the published rate limits is abuse.

5. Your links, your responsibility

You are responsible for the destinations you shorten and share. We provide the verification evidence; the decision to send a link is yours. Link owners can revoke their own links instantly (POST /api/links/<code>/revoke); deleted links go offline immediately and are hard-deleted 90 days after deletion (see the security page retention table).

6. No warranty; limited liability

The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind — including that verdicts are correct, complete, or current. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Linktary's total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim (for the free tier: $0), and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages — including any loss resulting from acting on a verdict.

7. Privacy

Our data practices are in the privacy page and the security page: minimum knowledge, no per-visitor tracking, encrypted destinations, 90-day hard-purge for deleted links. Those pages are part of these terms.

8. Accounts and termination

Sign-in is by email magic link — keep your email account secure. You may close your account at any time (contact hello@linktary.com); closing deletes your account email and your links go with the retention rules above. We may suspend accounts for abuse (§4).

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; material changes are announced on the site with the new "last updated" date above. Continued use after changes take effect is acceptance.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, excluding conflict-of-law rules.
